| SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Architecture) is an interface for desktop-system drives that is used to connect hard drives and other peripherals to a PC. Serial ATA is also the next -generation internal storage interconnect and is the evolutionary replacement for the Parallel ATA (PATA) physical storage interface. This architecture overcomes the electrical constraints that are increasing the difficulty of continued speed enhancements for the classic parallel ATA bus. Serial ATA will be introduced at 150Mbytes/sec, with a roadmap already planned to 600Mbytes/sec, supporting up to 10 years of storage evolution based on historical trends. The SATA standard defines a data cable using seven conductors and 8 mm wide wafer connectors on each end. |

| eSATA was standardized in mid-2004, and is quickly becoming the storage bus of choice for users wanting SATA-level performance with the flexibility of an external enclosure. |
